You may have seen someone from a distance, waist deep in
a beautiful stream, waving a colorful fly line back and forth,
and thought to yourself – I’d like to try that.
Like most things worth doing, there are some learning curves
at the outset. Learning the basic fly cast may be the largest barrier to entry for most beginners. But learning some of the foundation mechanics can prepare anyone to pick up a fly rod and cast a fly confidently their first day on the water.
Maybe you’re planning to spend a day out with a fishing guide during an upcoming vacation and you want to feel comfortable and prepared. Maybe you’re the DIY type that knows fly fishing is for you, but just need a place to start. Or maybe you’re someone who just likes to try new things.
A fly casting lesson (1hr*) will get you going and provide a basic understanding of how the fly rod, line, and leader work together. You will learn a few basic knots that will allow you to attach your flies and tippet. You will learn what makes a cast layout well and not so well. You’ll practice accuracy and we’ll cover fishing scenarios that you may encounter when on the water.
